What is the Imagine Initiative?

Imagine is a three-year generosity initiative of The River Anglican Church launched in January 2023. After much prayer, thought, and planning, the leadership believes that the time is right for us to begin the search for a permanent home for our congregation.

During the launch of the campaign, more than $500,000 was pledged toward the Imagine Initiative. 

A Word from our Rector

Below is the text from a letter from our Rector, Jonathan Tagg, sent to attendees and friends of The River Church prior to the kickoff of the Imagine Initiative in early 2023:

 

Dear Friend of The River, 

Exciting things are happening at The River Anglican Church! 

About three years ago, River leadership came to realize that our lack of a permanent home and our facility dependence is impacting our ministries. To that end, we formed a Facilities Team to seek God’s leading, to define our facility needs, and to research options for a permanent home for our congregation. 

It quickly became apparent that whatever opportunity God provided for The River would require a substantial financial commitment. 

In 2022, we underwent a Generosity Assessment and Feasibility Study to assist leadership with determining the congregation’s readiness and ability to support a campaign to raise approximately $500,000 for securing a future location. After much prayer and in consideration of the results of this study, leadership of The River decided that the timing was right to move forward with a capital campagin. 

Imagine is The River’s three-year initiative  to prepare spiritually and financially for our future. It is not merely a capital campaign, but a movement to encourage faith, right-size our priorities, and prepare for a permanent home. 

Our inspiration for this initiative is Ephesians 3:20: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us....” 

The River Anglican Church desires to be a place where youth and adults find mentoriship, eduation, safety, and a relationship with Jesus. A place of fellowship and growth for adults and families; where people’s lives are healed, minds renewed, marriages restored, and addictions put to the cross. 

We are asking and imagining for our facility to be both a resource for, and witness to, the New River Valley community. 

As a friend of The River Anglican Church, I invite you to journey with us as we step out in faith and prepare to secure a permanent home.

March 12, 2023 - First Fruits Sunday to offer our "first fruit" gifts - the first of our commitments to the three year Imagine Initiative

February 19 - March 12, 2023 - More than $500,000 over a three-year campaign period was pledged by our congregation

February 19, 2023 - Imagine Challenge Sunday and Celebration Brunch

January 24-30, 2023 - Imagine Home Gatherings and Advance Gifts meetings were held

January 22, 2023 - 5-week Imagine sermon series began

Imagine Initiative Updates

February, 2025 Update: We are approaching the start of the final year of the Imagine Initiative capital campaign. To date, we have received about 2/3 of the amount pledged, putting us on target to reach our campaign goal. 

Over the past two years, the Imagine Steering Team has continued to meet to refine our “wish list” and prioritize our needs for a new facility. As we near the end of the campaign, the Imagine Steering Team has begun investigating opportunities for land and facilities as they become available, evaluating these properties against the “wish list.” 

Please continue to pray that God would lead and direct The River through this process.

March 14, 2024: The River celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Imagine Initiative capital campaign. At roughly one-third of the way through the three-year fulfillment phase of the Imagine Initiative , we have received about one-third of the amount pledged. We are grateful for the faithfulness of The River family for keeping us on target and continuing to support Imagine through sacrificial giving.
